$4,650,000 Settlement – Fatal Bedsore Neglect Case

SGG Law secured a settlement of $4,650,000 for the children of dependent adult who developed severe bedsores at a Skilled Nursing Facility in Riverbank, CA in Stanislaus County.

What Happened

The nursing home was understaffed and failed to put interventions in place to prevent the development and worsening of these wounds. The patient was neglected and developed pressure injuries on the sacral area, ankles, foot, and heels – with the sacral bedsore becoming a infected Stage IV (to the bone) pressure ulcer.

This avoidable bedsore, which Medicare lists as a “never-event”, and the subsequent sepsis infection were substantial factors that led to the death of this resident.
