California law defines elder abuse broadly to include physical abuse, neglect, emotional abuse, financial exploitation, abandonment, isolation, and any conduct that causes harm to an adult who is 65 years of age or older. Abuse can occur in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, memory care communities, hospitals, or even in a private home.
