Assisted living facilities are designed for seniors who need help with daily living activities (like bathing, dressing, and medication management), not continuous medical care. However, many Santa Rosa facilities engage in “acuity creep”—retaining residents whose medical needs have progressed to require skilled nursing care just to maintain high occupancy and profits.
