Facility administrators frequently claim that advanced bedsores (pressure ulcers) are an inevitable consequence of aging or poor circulation. However, the vast majority of pressure wounds are entirely preventable. They generally occur when a short-staffed care team leaves an immobile or bedridden resident in the same position for hours without turning or repositioning them. Severe, advanced bedsores (Stage 3 or 4) are often direct evidence of clinical neglect.
